A one-hour midweek session — the regular top-up between Sundays.
Ages 6 to 14, all levels. We group children into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced bands, so every child is playing with others at their level.
We would encourage absolute beginners to first attend our free Saturday Club at Battersea Library.
Drop-off at 6:00pm. The session runs for one focused hour of coaching and games, with pick-up promptly at 7:00pm.
We are working on an earlier 5:00pm to 6:00pm slot, so do let us know if that would suit you better.
A short, focused coaching block followed by friendly, ability-grouped games. It is a fantastic way to keep the momentum going during the week.

Just bring a water bottle (refills are available) and comfortable clothes. We provide all chess equipment.
We maintain low staff ratios and all our coaches hold Enhanced DBS checks. Our safeguarding policy is available here.

Tuesday Club is designed for children aged 6-14. We group children by age and ability so everyone is playing and learning at the right level.

Absolutely. Many of our players start as complete beginners. Our coaches teach right from the very first move, in a friendly, encouraging way, so no experience is needed at all.

Yes. Because we group by ability, stronger and more experienced players are stretched too, with more competitive games and tournament preparation.

A focused hour of coaching and play. We'll cover a chess theme — say middle-game strategy or a tactical puzzle — then put it straight into practice with games, coaches on hand throughout. It's structured but relaxed, all about building skills and confidence week by week.

Our Tuesday Club runs from 6-7pm each Tuesday just before the adult Battersea Chess Club starts.

Tuesday sessions are £10. There's no membership required — simply book the sessions that suit you.

All sessions are booked online through our website’s booking page — just pick a date, reserve your child's place and pay by card. You'll get instant confirmation by email.

Yes. All our coaches hold an enhanced DBS check including the Children's Barred List. CheckMate Experiences is fully insured and ICO-registered, and we follow clear safeguarding policies at every session. You can read our full safeguarding policy here.

Just a water bottle to stay hydrated - snacks are optional. All equipment is provided.
For full-day summer camps, they should bring packed lunches and snacks.

Yes — parents are welcome to stay in the playing hall, which has a bar and seating to relax in while your child plays. Or drop off and return at the end, whatever works. Coaches are with the children the whole time.
