Woodpeckers in Brussels

While visiting a friend in Brussels, I took some time out to check out the chess scene. For any chess enthusiasts in that part of the world, I would highly recommend checking out:

  • The bar Le STROF* for a bit of chess in the sun!

  • Maison des Échecs**

  • Brussels Chess Club***

Brussels has a bit of everything, and that includes chess!

A highlight for me was visiting Maison des Échecs, a wonderful chess shop with very helpful staff. In their second hand book section, I spied out a copy of The Woodpecker Method, an absolute chess classic for those looking to improve, which has also provided inspiration for some of our chess lessons this summer for our summer camps and other classes. See pictures below.

Can you spot the tactic on f7?

I then enjoyed a quick-fire interview with Raphael working there!
