Battersea Kids Chess Club Update – Back to Chess!

Saturday Library Chess continued over the summer holidays, but it was lovely to see so many new and familiar faces back as school restarts!

Saturday 5th September meant a few things to our local children – for most, it was the weekend after their first week back at school post-school holidays.

And as 25-ish kids filled up the kids section of Battersea Library, it was so lovely to hear about the chess activities they’d been up to. And it was funny as ever to hear some of them proudly declare that they hadn’t done any chess at all!

This year the Kids Chess Club will turn three years old – and we’re especially excited for the following things:

  • As ever, we cannot wait to get our youngest and newest members into the game. From 5-year Maya getting taught by 6-year old James, it’s amazing to see young minds connect over a timeless game;

  • Some of our players will now begin their journeys into competitive adult chess too! From joining Tuesday evenings at Battersea Adults Chess Club, to battling in club matches, Gabriel, myself and our wider coaching team are excited to support their progress!
