Last month, TLG Capital held their Investor Day at Hotel Rafayel in Battersea, and we were delighted to put on an evening of Mind Games for their guests.
As people arrived, our coaches were on the floor with chess and Go boards set up for anyone keen to play, whether they’d never touched a piece or were a full-blown chess.com addict. Mentalist Harry de Cruz then set the tone for the night, leaving guests wondering how he seemed to know exactly what they were thinking.
Our headline guest was GM Jonathan Rowson: three-time British champion, author of The Moves That Matter, and founder of the research institute Perspectiva. In conversation with our co-founder Sam Walker and TLG founder Zain Latif, Jonathan held the room captive as he discussed where the AI revolution leaves chess, what makes a good chess player, and plenty more.
Jonathan solving the mystery of chess!
He then took on 15 boards in a simul, including three of our CheckMate juniors. It was lovely to see so many people new to the game keen to learn with our coaches, and more experienced players excited to give a GM a run for his money. No upsets this time, but there’s always next year!
Thanks to Jonathan, Harry, the TLG team and our coaches, including guest coach International Master Marcus Harvey, for a brilliant night.
